I heard this TV show was cancelled because it got more popular with teenage girls and young female adults than its intended audience (young boys). After that, DC kind of just let it die in every sense.
Anniversaries can be moments of celebration or they can be reminders of our losses and short-comings. The exoneration and settlement awarded to of five young men charged with rape, assault, robbery , attempted murder, and rioting in NY in 2014 juxtaposed to the tragic suicide of Kalief Browder in 2015 underscores this fact.
March is Social Work Month. This month we thank and celebrate social workers across the country for the incredible impact they have on the most vulnerable youth and adults in our communities. The categorizes the following key action areas unique to social work: promoting social change, problem solving in human relationships, and empowering and liberating all people. Given this, it is no surprise that social workers play a vital role in youth justice reform.
Honoring the Social Justice Legacy of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; Protecting Health Care for All AmericansOn Monday, Congresswoman McCollum will march in St. Paul to honor the life and legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King's struggle for civil rights was the quest for social justice for all Americans. That struggle continues today as America seeks greater tolerance of people of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, and sexual orientation. We are struggling as a nation to stop the ever growing income inequality between the wealthy and working families. Another area of social justice that Americans must confront regardless of economic status, ethnicity, or age is the struggle to access affordable, quality health care.
Congresswoman McCollum believes access to health care, like civil rights, is a social justice issue. It should be a right for all Americans. The new health care reform law that went into effect in 2010 takes a significant step towards protecting Americans from insurance company discrimination and providing greater access to health care.
Congresswoman McCollum will vote against repealing these most basic patient protections and will continue to fight to ensure Americans have access to quality, affordable health care. This is a matter of social justice which she believes Dr. King would be fighting for as well.
I celebrate Dr. McAdoo for modeling a mosaic of love, professional excellence, racial consciousness, compassion, selflessness, sharing, boldness, femininity, tenacity, lovely laughter, and care. I celebrate her vision that all may partake of social justice and enjoy a higher quality of life.
Her gentle depth of character combined with her courageous scholarship and actions guided and inspired us. We can only hope to be that kind of mentor for our younger brothers and sisters, so that her legacy lives on. The sweet memories are many and my loss is deep, but mostly I am grateful to be graced with the privilege of sharing some of her time and space while she was here on Earth among us.
In all the years I had the honor of working with Harriette, she never ceased to amaze me with her strong advocacy, warrior mentality, action for social justice, steadfast belief in me, and her unwavering commitment to not only her students and scholarship but also for true equity, equality, and social justice for faculty of color in the academy. If it meant going to the dean, the vice president of human resources, the chair of an academic department, or the academy diversity and inclusion officer, Harriette would be the first in line to advocate for the students and faculty members she guided. She had an impeccable reputation and was known as a true warrior for social justice. 59ce067264
